Sal Mazzaferro is an Italian – Canadian born center-back who currently plays for Austin FC II in the Major League Soccer Next Pro (MLSNXTPRO) league. He started his youth career in the Toronto FC Academy before accepting a scholarship to play with the University of South Florida (SFU). After impressing at SFU, the left-footed center-back was drafted in the 2023 MLS Super Draft by Austin FC. Not only did he impress on the pitch, but off the pitch he graduated with a Bachelor of Communications degree.
In his debut season for Austin, he tallied a combined 31 appearances and was instrumental in the club’s success. They went on to win the MLS NXTPRO championship where they defeated defending champions Columbus Crew in the finals.
