Sal Mazzaferro is an Italian – Canadian born center-back who currently plays for Atlanta United in the Major League Soccer Next Pro (MLSNXTPRO) league. He started his youth career in the Toronto FC Academy before accepting a scholarship to play with the University of South Florida (SFU). After impressing at SFU, the left-footed center-back was drafted in the 2023 MLS Super Draft by Austin FC. Not only did he impress on the pitch, but off the pitch he graduated with a Bachelor of Communications degree.
In his debut season for Austin, he tallied a combined 31 appearances and was instrumental in the club’s success. They went on to win the MLS NXTPRO championship where they defeated defending champions Columbus Crew in the finals.
Sal made his MLS debut in the 2025 season when he featured against Inter Miami FC.
